Jake & Mimi by Frank Baldwin

I just finished reading The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen and was about to finish one of the others I have on the go, when I joined an ALS. Every book I looked at that I had finished recently either didn't fit (was a teen book or a not very good book) or was on reserve for somebody. I put two on reserve for Turtle cos they were on his wishlist and thought he would appreciate them.

Now Jake and Mimi....this could be a different type of story. I can't make up mu mind as to whether it is erotica or if it will become some kind of thriller. Not sure if that's a good mix or a good sign, but I'll let you know once I've finished it.

Three Books On The Go

So I've told people that I am in the middle of reading more than one book. It's the truth but only partially. I'm just past half-way on the Stuart MacBride Cold Granite book, and I decided to pick up something a little lighter.
Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier is a teen book about an Indian girl living in America. New jersey, actually. From the sounds of it, her parents are going to have an arranged marriage for her, and from what I have read so far (the first two chapters) that just will not work at all. As much as Dimple is an Indian girl, she is very much Americanized. Her relatives are even insistent that she try to become more "white." There are 500 pages to this book, so I can imagine it will take quite a few twists and turns along the way.
I've also mentioned that I am reading Blood Eagle by Craig Russell, but I am finding this one to be tough to pick up and read. I had finished Brother Grimm quite some time ago and imagined this one would have it's tough moments, but i just can't seem to pick it back up.
And last but not least is Cold Granite. It's actually a really good read, but nothing seems to keep my occupied these days. I don't know what I am looking for in a book right now. Maybe I need some fluffy RDI or a short and nasty mystery. Maybe I'll settle on something soon.
I won't say much more for the night. Instead I think I'll pack up Hank II and go back to reading Cold Granite on my nice extremely comfortable leather couch.

Just Opened My Happiness Day Package

And what a load I got! Three of my wishlist books: The Kill Artist (Daniel Silva), The Getaway (Jim Thompson) and Mortal Allies (Brian Hiag). Not to mention: kitty treats for Winston, candy for me and Richard, lots of floss, bookmaks, bookplates, stickers, 2 pencils and a stretchy hardcover book thingie in bright orange. Felt like Christmas, it did :) All from Sara in Minnesota (appaloosatb).

I'm about 200 pages into Cold Granite and loving it! If only I could stop surfing the net for awhile I'd probably have half of it done by now. I love the main character DS Logan McRae, and will be looking desperately for the next book in the series. But of course the name of it escapes me right now. I think I'll cheat and go look it up on my wishlist. Dying Light...I should have known that!

Richard and I went to The Sony Store again today. He picked up a bag to carry his digital camera, which wasn't exactly what he was looking for but will do the trick for now. Leonard and the guy we thought was the manager were very interested in how Richard's pictures look, so we went back again after stopping by the house. He gave them a disc made up of purely pictures taken with one of the 3 Sonys we own. From the sounds of it, they may run them from a TV screen so people can see what kinds of pictures it can take! Won't that be exciting to see his pictures on the screen! He's making another copy that has more varied photos on it which may appeal to everyone instead of having the majority as cars. Guess we'll be making another trip there this weekend, or maybe he'll go there after work.

He told me yesterday that John at Gentry Lane had his huge Panoz picture framed and mounted just below the hood of the Panoz from the Le Mans. I'd like to see it in person, since he showed me a photo that he took last week when he was in there. We both just assumed that John had put the photo somewhere and that was that. Looks pretty awesome in the photo. Richard's also waiting to hear from Michael's girlfriend's son who apparently owns three car magazines. He sent her some pictures to forward to him so he can see what kind of work he does. If the son likes them, we may have the opportunity to see more races with better seats or for free. Besides, it must be a great ego booster for him. I know I'm proud!

Well, it's after 100 am now, so I should be getting ready for bed. Have dreaded work in the morning (ugh!) but atleast some of my team is back and it won't just be me this week. Thank God for small miracles.

It's 2006, Looks Like I'm In a Timewarp!

So I just read through some of my old blogs. And old appears to be the correct term. 2005!?!?!? Where the hell did a whole year go? Guess I found I had more important things to do.

Well, now that it's a "new year" for you, Mr Blog, let's get down to business.

BookCrossing and BookRelay has taken over my life. No, it's not the thousands of books I live with day in and day out. It's this obsession I have with meeting other book geeks: Just. Like. Me. I even went to the silly convention (kind of, well not really. I just hung out with the relayers after all the activities were done.) And I guess I can't call it silly because quite frankly, I loved it! Loved the people, loved the talking and adored the live swaps! What a great bunch of pals I made :)

Secondly, I'm finally doing something for others. Volunteering once a week at the Humane Society feeding the kittens. And what little buggers they can be! But I truly love them to death, and have set them up as my background on both my laptaop and the computer at work. Never thought I'd actually do the volunteering, mainly cos I thought they'd make me do yucky stuff like cleaning poop, or helping with the dying animals. But this is definately quite rewarding :)

Now that it's past 1230 in the morning, I'm going to publish you off, and see if I can remember to write in you more frequently.

Jebs :)

P.S. I'm reading Cold Granite at the mo by Stuart MacBride
